The Cook Awakening

About Durga

Passionate about health.
Passionate about cooking.
Passionate about waking up.
Passionate about where they all meet.

Cooking, eating and understanding healthy foods is kitchen yoga. Durga Fuller is the Kitchen Yogini! A true health mystic, she is here to help you put the love back on your plate.

Durga has 20 years experience cooking professionally, 10 of those years at meditation retreat centers around the world. The last 10 years she has organized and facilitated personal growth retreats, and nourished a family with food sensitivities and other health challenges.

The Cook Awakening was born out of Durga’s desire to integrate these skills into an offering of service in the world.

She now coaches and teaches internationally to help individuals, families and groups integrate whole health changes, body, mind and spirit, into their lives gracefully and with ease.

Are you ready for a truly human life?

More about Durga:

At 21 years old, my future first employer asked me, “Can you cook?” to which I replied, “No, but if you teach me, I can do anything.” And so the journey began.

I cooked. Through ups and downs and personal recovery, I cooked. On a profound spiritual search through India and beyond, I cooked. Then, in my forties, as a mother of children challenged with food sensitivities, and discovering a few of my own, I found the journey changed. What began as a job has become a passion.

I love to cook. And the connection between food and whole health is vitally apparent and important to me.

My professional and spiritual journey has taken me far and deep. After paying my dues in my twenties in corporate catering, I worked for many years as a cook and retreat manager at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, where I had the amazing opportunity to cook for the Dalai Lama. (He only ate the dessert….) I cooked for a number of years at Commonweal’s Cancer Help Program. And, most recently, I have been a facilitator, organizer, and cook for non-denominational, personal growth retreats, as well as training in various modalities of depth psychology.

Over time, my love of cooking has been revealed to be an extension of a love of living fully, in connection with myself, the inner and the outer world. I’ve been honored to create the container for deep transformation in people, both at the table and in all areas of life.

I specialize in taking care of the practical details, infusing them with Love.

  • negotiate the challenges of craving foods that leave you feeling tired, sluggish or sick
  • gently be with the grief of living with and healing your health challenges
  • learn basic cooking skills
  • make decisions about what foods are healthy for you and your family
  • cook unfamiliar foods

  • organize your kitchen and your life to support your desired health changes
  • reconnect with your body and your life

You are not separate from your body, from your food, or from the earth. You can make that understanding a reality using very simple tools, from the hands-on pragmatic to the emotional and spiritual. The Cook Awakening invites you to know yourself as you are today, step into your life fully, and live to your full capacity.

Testimonial
“Durga walks the talk and this comes through in her teaching style, which is hands-on full sensory. She shares a style of food preparation that has been largely lost through generations of genetic modification and mass production, giving us tools to create medicinal food in our own kitchens. My favorite so far has been the veggie pickling and sourdough starters, but she covers the gambit over tea and gluten-free hors d’œuvres. She makes it all so simple! Nearly all of my patients are making difficult diet changes, or at least reaching personal realizations about the diet’s relationship to health and I feel great lacing all of my treatment plans with flyers for Durga, the Kitchen Yogini’s individual coaching and group classes. Durga, you rule!”
